Like the original Big Red Ship and the Modestly-Sized Red Ship samplers before it, this sampler was inspired by the antique Indonesian woven cloths called Tampan or shipcloths. It features a central horse-bearing ship surrounded by a rich panoply of plants, birds, and animals, some identifiable and some perhaps more fantastical. It clocks in at 173 x 173 stitches square and only 20% as many stitches as Big Red Ship, perfect for those not wanting to take on the larger projects as well as those wanting to complete the entire fleet. This Red Ship of Life was worked on hand-dyed linen with two shades of Gloriana silk. Contact Tracy Horner at Ink Circles.
