Stitching on the 4th of July

One of my favorite holidays is the 4th of July.  It's summer, it's colorful, and it celebrates our freedoms in the USA.  And I'm a big fireworks fan, too (the ones at the park, not in my neighborhood).  It's also a good time to stitch, so get out those projects, relax out on the deck or backyard with a big glass of iced tea and cross those X's to your heart's content.  Lots of great patriotic patterns are available and your customers will enjoy stitching them all summer long. New Number Tab for the Large Floss Key

Yarn Tree has redesigned the Large Plastic Floss Key to include a tab that will hold the floss number band off your skein of DMC or Anchor floss.  Or if you are organizing another type of thread, you may use a sticker and write your number on the sticker which is included in the pack.  Large Floss Keys (or holders) are packaged in 50's, 100's, or a bulk package of 1000.  Keep on Stitching!  Beth 

Cross Stitch Classics

I recently had the pleasure of meeting artist Janet Powers.  Many of you may remember her as a cross stitch designer for Green Apple.  Janet's designs are ageless and you may wish to take another look at her excellent work and stitch one of her designs for your home or for a gift.  You may choose from a variety of lovely designs from flowers, to fruits and vegetables, flower fairies, wild animals, and more.  Happy Stitching!  Beth

Lead and Your Needlework Business

Not to worry!  Several concerned stores have called us because of an email sent out by an organization in our industry.  Contrary to that email, the new rulings on lead will have little effect on your needlework store and how you operate your business.  We have posted information for stores on our Needlework Retailer web site.

Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and your needlework business.

The Guide to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) for Small Businesses, Resellers, Crafters and Charities from the CPSC web site does an excellent job of explaining how the new rules apply to small businesses.

 Basically, the items you sell in your needlework store are exempt.

Cross Stitch "Watch Me Grow" Vinyl Growth Chart

This fun new growth chart has just been released by Charles Craft. "Watch Me Grow" is decorated with colorful cross stitch animals surrounding areas which may be cut out for the insertion of photographs. It will be fun for you and your child to see the changes in them as they grow up. Plus, the numbers provide a good way to learn to count and the variety of animals will spark creativity and conversations with any active youngster. Makes a great gift that will be appreciated for years to come. A Perfect Time to Cross Stitch

This is the perfect season to cross stitch (I will say that about any season!).  But if you don't know how, our Learn to Cross Stitch in 5 Minutes video  is a good way to start.  Another great way is to contact your local needlework store and ask them to teach you.  It doesn't take long to learn to cross stitch and the results will turn out well, even for a beginner.  Yes, anyone can learn to cross stitch!  Better yet, counted cross stitch relieves stress and you end up with wonderful gifts or decor for your home.  Happy Stitching!  Beth
